Main Mantra of 2020’s Maison & Objet

Maison&Objet 2020’s main mantra is “(RE) GENERATION,” with a January edition dedicated to newer generations, confronting their expectations on different issues (from economy to environment, identity, and migration) for an ongoing global recession. As expected, we are led on this trip by the consultancy firm Nelly Rodi, which this year was entrusted with narrating Maison&Objet to tourists between the key elements and innovations that we will be experiencing in the next 25 years.

“Faced with multiple global crises, people in the twenties and thirties today want to join forces to change the world; inspired by personalities like Greta Thunberg, they do not hesitate to get personally involved,” explains Vincent Grégoire, trend expert at NellyRodi. “This is a generation that feels the need to make a meaningful difference, bringing new values into everyone’s way of living.”

AWARDS

DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

For this year, Maison Et Objet 2020 has selected Michael Anastassiades as designer of the year! In 2007, Michael Anastassiades unveiled his impressive lighting company where he presented his brand for the first time at the Maison et Objet. He’s coming back as the Year’s Designer now. Whereas he has become one of today’s active most imaginative and influential lighting artists. The Greek designer uses simple shapes and volumes in his work-a sphere, a line, a circle-to create an extremely rich language that embraces ambiguity and asymmetry.

Michael Anastassiades wishes to deliver an experience at this year’s edition of the event besides showcasing his series. The 16 of his Mobile Chandeliers will be displayed together for the very first time: the lights driven by engines, would travel as though worlds were in the dark space. Anastassiades once again works in connection with the qualities and conditions of light and darkness and displays them at the Maison Et Objet 2020.
